Surface Area and Absorption Inquiry - Villi Model

Year 8 · Science · Extension Task · $6.99 AUD

A Year 8 Science extension task on surface area and absorption using a villi model. Students calculate the surface area of a mathematical villi model, explore surface area to volume ratios of cubes, plan a paper towel investigation with variables and a risk assessment, and analyse example data that includes an anomaly. Teacher notes and an extra practice answer key are included.

Part of the "From Cells to Systems" sub-unit. Aligned to AC9S8U02, AC9S8I01, AC9S8I04, AC9S8I05 (Australian Curriculum v9).

Students will:
• Calculate how villi increase the surface area of a lining
• Describe how surface area to volume ratio changes with size
• Plan a fair investigation with controlled variables
• Identify trends and anomalies in data and model limits

A ready-to-teach extension task, supplied as PDF, editable Word (DOCX) and PowerPoint (PPTX).
