A Year 1 design and technologies activity where students design and make a vehicle that rolls from recycled materials such as boxes, bottle tops and straws. They agree on design criteria, draw and label wheels and axles, build and test whether it rolls a metre carrying a load, then change one thing and test again. Teacher safety notes and a troubleshooting guide are included.
Part of the "Designing and Making Something That Moves" sub-unit. Aligned to AC9TDE2P01, AC9TDE2P02, AC9TDE2P04 (Australian Curriculum v9).
Students will:
• Draw and label a design before making it
• Make a rolling vehicle from recycled materials
• Test a design against agreed criteria
• Change one thing to improve a design
