<b>What would happen is electricity suddenly disappeared?</b><div><br></div><div>Part of the Big Thinking Days series, One Day Without Electricity is a complete stage 3 inquiry experience that challenges students to investigate how dependent our communities are on electricity. Students become Systems Investigators and explore what happens when electricity suddenly disappears for at least 24 hours. They trace chain reactions across communication, food, water, transport, hospitals, banking, schools and emergency services before deciding what the community should prioritise and developing a realistic response plan. </div><div><br></div><div>This is more than a list of electrical devices. Students investigate interconnected systems, predict immediate and longer term consequences, consider who needs help first, test their response plan and justify their decisions. Students develop skills in systems thinking, cause and effect, prediction, prioritising, problem-solving, collaboration, communication and evidence-based reasoning. </div><div><br></div><div>Perfect for a full-day inquiry, Science and Technology, HSIE, STEM, systems thinking, problem-solving, enrichment, end of term learning or casual relief teaching. </div><div><br></div><div>This PDF contains: </div><div><b>Teacher Resources</b></div><div>-Detailed teacher guide</div><div>-Complete teaching and learning sequence</div><div>-Suggested full day timetable</div><div>-Learning intentions and success criteria</div><div>-Teacher questioning prompts</div><div>-Assessment rubric and observation tool</div><div>-Differentiation and extension ideas</div><div>-Casual relief teacher quick-start guide</div><div><br></div><div><b>Student Resources</b></div><div>-Electricity investigation activities</div><div>-Systems and interdependence tasks</div><div>-Cause and effect chain activities</div><div>-Essential needs and prioritising challenges</div><div>-Community impact and perspective tasks</div><div>-Community response planning</div><div>-Scenario testing and plan improvement</div><div>-Emergency response pitch</div><div>-Audience feedback and reflection activities</div><div><br></div><div><b>Big Thinking Days: Real problems.
