Applying Quadratics to Problems (WA)

Year 10 · Mathematics · Lesson Plan · WA · $1.99 AUD

Western Australia curriculum edition. A Year 10 lesson plan on applying quadratics to real problems, closing a four-lesson quadratics sequence. Students learn to define a variable, form a quadratic equation, solve it by factorising and reject answers that make no sense, such as negative lengths, using rectangle area, consecutive number and ball height problems. Worked solutions and modelled answers are provided for the teacher.

Part of the "Quadratic Equations & Graphs" sub-unit. Aligned to AC9M10A02, AC9M10A04 (Australian Curriculum v9).

Students will:
• Model worded problems with quadratic equations
• Solve quadratics by factorising
• Reject invalid solutions such as negative lengths
• Interpret solutions to area and projectile problems

A ready-to-teach lesson plan, supplied as PDF, editable Word (DOCX) and PowerPoint (PPTX).
