Year 9 and HSC Resources: Where to Find Curriculum-Aligned Material
By The EduSellers Team · · Teacher Resources
Two searches bring secondary teachers to EduSellers more than most: "Year 9 resources" and "HSC resources". They are different problems. Year 9 sits inside the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 (Stage 5 in New South Wales) and is a NAPLAN year, so alignment means AC9 codes or NESA Stage 5 outcomes. The HSC is the New South Wales senior credential, taken over Years 11 and 12 under syllabuses set by NESA, so alignment means Stage 6 outcome codes and a NSW edition. This guide shows where each kind of material lives on the site and how to check it, with counts as at November 2026.
Year 9: what the curriculum asks for
In Version 9.0, English, Mathematics and Science have year-by-year content descriptions for Year 9 (codes such as AC9M9A01 for Year 9 Mathematics, Algebra); HASS, The Arts, Technologies and Health and Physical Education are written in a Years 9–10 band. New South Wales teaches its own NESA syllabuses, where Years 9 and 10 are Stage 5; Victoria uses the Victorian Curriculum F–10 and Western Australia the SCSA outline, both of which carry the same content under their own codes. Year 9 is also the final NAPLAN year, sat in March, which is why the Year 9 collection includes a NAPLAN slice.
EduSellers lists 147 resources written specifically for Year 9: Mathematics (38), NAPLAN (36), English (21), Science (13), eight each in The Arts, Geography, Health and Physical Education and History, and seven in Technologies. All of them are on the Year 9 teaching resources hub, which splits by subject — for example Year 9 NAPLAN.
Year 9 resources worth starting with
Mathematics is the deepest Year 9 collection, and Pythagoras and trigonometry is where most of it sits. Year 9 Pythagoras and Trigonometry: Unit Plan and Curriculum Map ($10.99) plans a connected nine-to-ten-lesson unit; Year 9 Pythagoras' Theorem: Assessment Task ($8.99) is the matching 25-mark summative task; and the free Angles of Elevation and Depression worksheet (AC9M9M03) applies right-angle trigonometry with worked examples and practice. For English, the free Adapting a Text into a New Genre or Form (AC9E9LY06) scaffolds a transformation task — audience, conventions, purpose — with a marking rubric. Year 10, the other half of Stage 5, has 193 resources on the Year 10 hub.
The HSC: what it is and what "aligned" means
The Higher School Certificate is awarded by NESA to students who complete Stage 6 — the Year 11 (Preliminary) and Year 12 (HSC) courses — in New South Wales. Every Stage 6 subject has a NESA syllabus with its own outcome codes: EN11-3 and EN12-1 in English, BIO11-8 in Biology, MA-C1 for the calculus topic in Mathematics Advanced, and so on. A resource is aligned to the HSC when it names the course, the year and the outcome, and it should say "New South Wales" or "NSW" on the page. ACARA's senior secondary curriculum underpins the NSW syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science and History, but it is the NESA outcome, not an AC9 code, that you check against.
One thing to be clear about: EduSellers lists teacher-written lessons, worksheets and practice tasks aligned to the Stage 6 syllabuses. They are not official NESA examination papers, marking guidelines or endorsed study guides, and nothing on the site claims to be.
Where the HSC resources are
Senior resources on EduSellers are tagged by year and by state. There are 364 Year 11 and 156 Year 12 resources in total, and the NSW-tagged senior set — 18 Year 11 and 24 Year 12 — is where the HSC material sits: Mathematics (16), English (14) and Science (11). Start at the NSW curriculum hub, or go straight to a subject: NSW English, NSW Mathematics or NSW Science. The Year 11 and Year 12 hubs list every state's senior resources by subject.
Four to look at. The free Close Reading for Meaning (NSW HSC) opens the Year 11 critical-study sequence (EN11-3) with close annotation of how language, form and structure shape meaning; Composing the Comparative Essay (NSW HSC) ($4.99, EN12-1) closes the Year 12 comparative text study with a cohesive, integrated essay. In Mathematics, Chain, Product and Quotient Rules (NSW HSC) ($2.99, MA-C1) is lesson 3 of the differential calculus sequence. In Biology, Enzymes and Metabolism (NSW HSC) ($1.99, BIO11-8) is the most downloaded NSW Year 11 resource on the site.
Other states' senior certificates
The same logic applies outside New South Wales: the VCE (Victoria, VCAA), the QCE (Queensland, QCAA), the WACE (Western Australia, SCSA) and the SACE (South Australia) each have their own syllabuses and codes, and a senior resource should name the one it is written to. Use the VIC, QLD, WA and SA hubs and look for the Year 11 and Year 12 entries.
How to check a secondary resource before you download
- Year level in the title line — "Year 9", not "Years 7–10".
- The code: an AC9 code for Years 7 to 10 (or a NESA Stage 4 or 5 outcome on a NSW edition), and a NESA Stage 6 outcome for the HSC.
- The state named on the page — NSW for HSC material; National or your own state for Years 7 to 10.
- The preview: success criteria, a worked example or marking rubric, and an answer key.
The whole secondary catalogue — 1,351 resources for Years 7 to 12, 232 of them free — is split by year and subject on the high school teaching resources page.
